Call of the Wild
13FOREST Gallery is pleased to present Call of the Wild, an exhibition featuring the work of Coco Berkman, Resa Blatman, John Campbell, Kris Droney, Nicole Duennebier, Sean Dunstan-Halliday, Grace Durnford, Peter DeCamp Haines, Irene and Jonas Hastings, Susan Jaworski-Stranc, Boriana Kantcheva, Joe Keinberger, Patt Kelley, Mark Luiggi, Richard Pellegrino, Nancy Popper, Allison Maria Rodriguez, Amy Ross, Mike Ryczek, Benjamin Styer, James Weinberg and Monica Wing.
The mission of 13FOREST Gallery is to introduce the work of new and established artists to a broader public. This spring we decided to do something out of the ordinary for our curatorial practice and issued an open call to New England artists for our spring exhibition.
We chose the theme of 'animals' for the call, hoping that an open-ended topic would entice artists working in all different media. Humans have a wide range of interactions and relationships with animals, from the pets we keep in our homes to the food we eat. We asked for work that reflects the significance that animals have in our lives, encompassing folklore and fables, religion and spirituality, environmentalism and conservation, and pure fantasy.
Our intention is that the exhibition include artists whose work we have already shown as well as representatives from the broader community of artists in New England. We were delighted by the response to our call, and from the group of applicants we have put together a body of work that we find visually and thematically compelling.
