Whether we believe good (or bad) fortune is pure happenstance or a force that can be conjured, it is often a potent part of the stories we tell about ourselves and the world. From lucky charms and black cats crossing our paths to beginner’s luck or making one’s own luck, we have a myriad of ways of expressing how unseen influences affect our lives. For As Luck Would Have It, we issued an open call for New England artists to show us their unique perspectives on the concept of luck. The responses ranged from reinterpretations of familiar symbols like four leaf clovers and rabbit’s feet, to works that incorporate randomness and chance into how they’re made, to work depicting how luck intervened in the life of the artist. Including artists both familiar and new to 13FOREST, As Luck Would Have It delves into the mysterious force of luck and how it impacts our lives.
