Kristin Petrillo

Kristin Petrillo finds visual drama—and unexpected pleasure—in the commercial and industrial places most people pass without a second look. Her acrylic paintings turn these everyday structures into bold, graphic compositions, using color and unexpected points of view to make the familiar feel newly seen. Based in Worcester, Massachusetts, Petrillo brings a background in graphic design and a strong sense of composition and visual structure to her work.

Petrillo is drawn to places that reveal the evidence of human endeavor—structures and spaces shaped by work, use, and time—as well as subjects that often sit at the edge of our attention. She is especially interested in the way light, shadow, color, and geometry can make an ordinary place suddenly feel worth noticing. Each painting begins with a digitally refined photograph that Petrillo translates into acrylic, building flat fields of color, crisp edges, and smooth surfaces through thin layers of paint.

Petrillo’s work has been exhibited at the Danforth Art Museum, the Fitchburg Art Museum’s Regional Exhibition, and numerous other juried exhibitions throughout New England. Her paintings have also been shown in commercial settings and are held in both private and corporate collections.
