I am a monotype printmaker working in mixed methods that combine woodblock carving, intaglio technique, and painterly mono-printing. My prints are each originals - produced in a short series with four to ten interpretations of one image. To me, printmaking is a spontaneous process through which the print emerges with a life of its own. My interests in drawing and painting are the foundation for my approach to printmaking.
My images are invented in the print shop and built up from small pen and ink drawings collected in my sketchbooks. I am drawn to elements in nature with strong form which I often see most readily in the rough and the wild - decrepit buildings, granite cliffs, mamouth rocks, and dead trees. I also look to master drawings for inspiration.
