Artist Talk and Trunk Show: An Exploration of Lampworking with Cristian Gazmuri,Thursday Nights in the Square -- March 29, 6-9 p.m.

Amherst glass artist Cristian Gazmuri will speak at 13FOREST Gallery on the special process he uses to create beautiful glass jewelry from which floral, coral-reef, and galactic patterns emerge. The process, known as lampworking, involves melting clear and colored boro-glass rods over an open flame. It enables Gazmuri to infuse his pendants and rings with a sense of interior depth and introduces to his work an element of chance that ensures that no two of his pieces will ever be identical.

The results of lampworking are as richly varied as Gazmuri himself. In addition to being a full-time artist, he has studied psychology and biology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and he maintains a career as a professional drummer. In 2005 Gazmuri established his studio in Amherst, where he creates his jewelry as well as vortex marbles, paperweights and other glass objects.
